Membrane filtration relies on a thin, microporous membrane to physically block particles larger than the pore size. Unlike depth filters, membrane cartridges provide absolute micron ratings, meaning retention performance is clearly defined and repeatable.
Common membrane materials include PES, PVDF, PTFE, and nylon, each selected for specific chemical and thermal compatibility. This makes membrane cartridges the standard choice for pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and microelectronics filtration.

A membrane filter cartridge is a precision filtration device that uses polyethersulfone (PES), PTFE, PVDF, or Nylon membranes to remove particles as small as 0.02 µm from liquids. It is used in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and food & beverage industries for sterile filtration, high-purity water production, and chemical process filtration.
Membrane filter cartridges are classified by membrane material and application grade:
By membrane material:
A membrane filter cartridge consists of four main components: outer cage (support frame), filter membrane (filtration layer), end caps (sealing), and sealing rings (gasket). All components use thermal welding without adhesives to prevent contamination.
Material compatibility:
Connection / End Cap Styles: DOE (Double Open End), 222 O-ring, 222 Fin, 226 O-ring, 226 Fin. Connection style must match your filter housing — confirm before ordering. Custom configurations are available.
You need a membrane filter cartridge when raw water quality doesn’t meet purity requirements. Sources like seawater, surface water, or tap water contain particles, bacteria, and colloids that require filtration down to 0.1-1μm for pharmaceutical, electronics, or food production use.
Key benefits:
Membrane filter cartridges work by applying pressure to force liquid through a multi-layer membrane with gradient pore sizes (coarse to fine). Particles larger than the rated micron size are trapped in the membrane layers, while clean liquid passes through.
Working principle:
Result: Up to 99.99% particle removal with absolute-rated filtration.
For feeds with high particle loads, a melt blown filter cartridge or pleated filter cartridge is often installed upstream as a pre-filter to extend membrane service life.
Membrane filter cartridges offer high precision (0.1-10μm), 99.99% filtration efficiency, wide chemical compatibility (pH 1-14), and long service life. They’re 100% integrity tested, easy to install, and cost-effective for pharmaceutical, electronics, and food applications.
Key advantages:
The production process involves 7 steps: pleating membrane material → seaming with ultrasonic welding → installing outer frame tube → cutting excess material → welding end caps → installing seal rings → packaging in clean room.
Production steps:
Quality control: Produced in 100,000-level clean room; 100% integrity tested for sterilizing-grade filters.
Membrane filter cartridges are used in electronics (ultra-pure water, semiconductor processing), pharmaceuticals (sterile injections, vaccines), and food/beverage (beer, juice, bottled water) for precision filtration and sterilization.
